Welcome to my page, I built it to keep track of my progress and to show others interested what my project looks like and what I am doing with it.
Special hello to the members of the DBA!!
If you don't know about the DBA but would like more information, click the Buggy Below.
The Pan is from a 1975 Beetle, the engine is a rebuilt 1776cc. with dual 40cc. Webber Carb's.
I picked it up from a friend of mine that had a couple other projects going on and needed the space. The day he found it parked in a driveway with weeds growing around it, I let him know I would take it off his hands anytime. As luck would have it, its all mine!
I think the tub is an El Lobo, however it looks very much like an Enos by FiberJet. The real difference is the hood. Not pictured here, its hanging on the wall after some much needed cover up paint job.
This is the Dash I built, I looked around for a good pattern and finally had to just come up with my own design, first making it out of cardboard to fit it then an old piece of aluminum stock. I hand cut most of it with a little help from Mr. Dremmel.
It's a little crooked because I am not finished with the wiring yet, but I think it looks pretty good. The lights will all work and the switches are illuminated (windshield wipers, Hazards, and an extra for lights later on). The dash lights are High Beam, Generator and Oil.
Update
July 2001
I had to take a little time off from working on the bug but I am back. I just about have the wiring hooked up to completely functional. I keep getting better ideas as I go and I had to trace down some faulty grounds that messed up the flashers, what a pain. I also have been doing extensive fiber glass repairs. two major holes in the front floor and several in the front under the hood. As soon as I can get the Dash set up the way I want it I am laying down some rubber to seal the hood and keep it dry for the long trip across the country from Hawaii to Jacksonville Florida. I am looking to put a tractor battery in instead of the bulky car battery that doesn't fit behind the passenger seat. I am also trying to fit together a soft top. I plan on making a pattern then going to a boat shop to have it custom made.
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2001
I have been doing a little at a time and getting her ready to ship to Florida. The wiring is complete and I just put in a new battery, (12 V, 340CCA Sears Tractor Gold). It works very well and is a couple inched smaller than the regular 12V battery, so I have more room for the passenger side seat. I took a drive around the block last night, I cant wait to get it out on the road and really let her rip. The rubber seal is Velcro-ed in and should work very well to keep extra water and dust out of the cabin. I am going to keep the Bikini top on when its shipped and maybe redo it later. here are a few pictures to show what it looks like.
I will post more pictures soon.
